What the igloohome–Smoobu connection does

igloohome is built for short-term rentals: instead of a retrofit cylinder like Nuki or Tedee, the keypad is usually a standalone unit at the door, often with the lock mechanism built in. At the core is an algorithm that generates time-limited PIN codes — the lock can validate a code locally, so it keeps working even without a permanent internet connection.

To hand codes to guests automatically through Smoobu, you still need an online connection: an igloohome Bridge reports bookings to the lock in real time, so Smoobu can create and send a unique code for every stay. Without a Bridge you can still generate codes manually in the igloohome app, but not automatically from Smoobu. If you already know Nuki or Tedee, the underlying logic will feel familiar — menu names and device labels differ.

Step 1 — Check your hardware and remote access

For Smoobu to create codes automatically, the lock needs to be reachable online through the Bridge. Which keypad and Bridge models igloohome currently sells changes over time — confirm this on igloohome.co before you buy.

Base device

igloohome Smart Keypad / Smart Lock

The keypad is the lock itself, or the number pad at the door. Guests type their code — no app, no Bluetooth pairing. Model names and variants (for apartment doors or supplementary locks) are listed on igloohome.co.

  • Mount the keypad per the manufacturer instructions and set it up in the igloohome app
  • Check the battery level regularly
  • Guests do not need their own igloohome account
Important: Before buying, check whether the igloohome connection is available on your Smoobu plan and which lock models Smoobu currently supports. This is based on the public documentation of Smoobu and igloohome as of 23 September 2026 — the feature set can change.

Step 2 — Link your igloohome account to Smoobu

  1. In Smoobu: open Settings and look for the integrations or smart lock area. The exact menu label can change — the Smoobu help centre has the current path.
  2. Choose igloohome from the list of supported lock providers.
  3. Sign in with your igloohome account and grant Smoobu access to your locks.
  4. Select the lock you want to connect.
  5. Assign the lock to the matching property in Smoobu. With several apartments, each apartment gets its own lock.
  6. Save. The connection status should now show as active.

If you later change your igloohome password or revoke access inside igloohome, you may have to re-authorise the connection in Smoobu.

Step 3 — Enable an access code per booking

Once connected, tell Smoobu to create a separate code for every booking automatically.

  1. Open the settings of the connected lock in Smoobu.
  2. Turn on automatic access code generation per booking.
  3. Check the validity window. Check-in time to check-out time is the usual choice; widen it if you need a cleaning buffer.
  4. Save. Existing bookings do not automatically get a code retroactively — create those by hand in the igloohome app if needed.

You will see the code in the booking details once Smoobu has synced it to igloohome. Test this once with a booking of your own before the first real guest arrives.

Step 4 — Send the code to the guest automatically

A code is worthless if it does not reach the guest in time. The most reliable approach is a message template that inserts the code for you.

  1. In Smoobu: open the message templates in the automation or messages area.
  2. Edit your pre-arrival template or create a new one.
  3. Insert the access code through the editor's variable picker instead of typing it by hand. This avoids typos in the placeholder.
  4. Schedule the send a few days before check-in. Many hosts choose 48 to 72 hours.
  5. Save the template. It now applies to all new bookings.
Tip: Send directions and general house info earlier, and the code separately shortly before arrival. That way the code does not get lost in a long message. More on template logic in our messaging automation guide.

Keep privacy and security in mind

A smart lock records when the door was opened. If you use access logs, tell your guests about it in the house information and restrict access to your own account. Do not share your igloohome login with cleaners — create separate access or separate codes for them instead.

This is not a topic for blanket answers: how long logs may be kept and what belongs in your privacy notice depends on your situation. When in doubt, ask a data protection adviser.

Troubleshooting common issues

No code appears in the booking

Usually the Bridge was offline when Smoobu tried to create the code. Check in the igloohome app that the Bridge and lock are online, and restore the Wi-Fi connection if needed. Then open the booking in Smoobu and trigger code generation again. If that does not help, disconnect the lock in Smoobu and connect it again.

The guest says the code does not work

Check the validity window first: before the check-in time the code is not active yet. Then confirm the keypad has enough battery, since a weak battery can block input. Ask the guest to enter the code slowly and completely.

Smoobu reports the lock as offline

Restart the Bridge (unplug and replug the power) and check whether your router's Wi-Fi credentials have changed. Also make sure the Bridge is within radio range of the lock, since thick walls can interfere with the connection.

The message was sent but contains no code

Either the message went out before the code was generated, or the variable was inserted incorrectly. Open the template and replace the placeholder through the variable picker. Also check that the send time falls after the code is generated.

New bookings suddenly stop getting codes

The authorisation between Smoobu and igloohome may have expired or been revoked in igloohome. Disconnect the lock in the Smoobu settings and link your igloohome account again. Codes that already exist generally stay valid — still verify this with a test booking.
